No job requires pre-training, except for the officials positions.

MEET STARTING TIME & DURATION

Swim meets begin at 6:00pm, and generally run about 3 to 3 1/2 hours. However, parents and swimmers are required to be on location no later than 5:00pm to ensure that set-ups are completed prior to start time.

In addition, at home meets, Idle Hour will begin warm-ups first!

FUND RAISING

At Home meets we operate a concessions stand selling various foods and snacks including burgers and Hot dogs.  This is a fundraiser activity that the swim team parents do to help cover some of the costs involved in its operation without passing it ALL onto its members.  We ask that each family donate items to sell at the concessions for 2 out of 4 Home meets.

**See schedule for dates**

WHAT TO EXPECT AT A SWIM MEET

When you arrive at the meeting site, you should check the coach's event board to see which events your children are swimming.  Many parents write , using a ballpoint pen or marker, the event number, heat, and lane assignments on their children's arm/hand for each event.

The BULLPEN is where the swimmer will receive their lane slip for each event they are entered in.  PARENTS may come to the Bullpen and get ALL of their children's lane slips if they would like...  But we ask that swimmers get only one slip at a time...  they are easily lost and subject to being completely unreadable if gotten wet.
The swimmer will the take the lane slip to the CLERK OF COURSE area, where they will be grouped with the other swimmers entered in their respective event.  **It is very important for the swimmers to stay in the designated Clerk of Course area and remain relatively quiet in order to hear their name baing called for their events.**

It is the swimmers and/or the parent's responsibility to have the swimmer in the designated area in plenty of time for their events!!!

**Coaches cannot search for the swimmer**

AWARDS

Place ribbons are given for 1st through 6th place in individual events, ribbons for 1st place in relay events.

Some clubs give 2nd place ribbons in relays as well

HEAT WINNER RIBBONS

In order to reward every swimmer at all our Idle Hour home meets, we award "Heat Winner" ribbons to any swimmer who comes in first in their heat.

DISQUALIFICATIONS

Every swimming stroke has certain rules, which must be followed in order for a swim to be considered "legal."

If a rule is broken, the the swimmer will be disqualified for that event only, meaning that he/she will not score points or earn a ribbon for that event.  The swimmer will be informed at the end of the race be an official that they were disqualified in that event and will be given the reason for the disqualification...  Disqualifications, especially in the breaststroke and butterfly events, are very common for new swimmers.  This can be frustrating for some swimmers.  Don't become discouraged.  It happens to the almost every swimmer occasionally.

OFFICIALS CLINIC

Anyone wishing to be an official for swim meets must take a certification clinic and test.  We will announce dates and times for clinics, as those become known to the staff.  If you should attend any of thes clinics, we highly reccomend that you appear at the time trials and get some on deck officiating experiencewith a seasoned official.  You may continue to work with an experienced official at our dual meets until you feel that you are ready to officiate by yourself.  Please note:  Current YMCA or USS certified officials are automatically certified officials for our meets, and do not need to attend the certification clinic or test.  YMCA officials should discuss the differences in rules between YMCA and USS rules.  The contact person for discussion of rules will be announced at time trials.  The officials are required to wear white shirts and navy shorts attire during the meets.

PARENT'S SWIM MEET

The Parent Swim Meet is an event that we like to have every season!  It is a fun time for all!  The parents swim in the meet...  Don't worry.  They don't make us swim to far... and the swim team members work the meet.  This will give the kids an opportunity to cheer and support the parents!  The kids really get a kick out of this event.  An excuse of "I can't swim" is not valid because there will be a water walking event as well... not to mention the infamous quot;Noodle Relay"

Date T.B.A.

As there is no rain date for this event; (no fair praying for rain.)
